EMUA comprises a Steering Group, composed of Vice Chancellors and Principals of our 10 member institutions. This group drives policy and strategy, and oversees the work of three Strategic Groups: Research, Employer Engagement and Innovation and Knowledge Transfer. EMUA is also linked with a number of Special Interest Groups.

Innovation Knowledge Transfer Strategy group
The broad aim of the EMUA IKT group is to increase the range and cohesiveness of the Knowledge Transfer activity across the region. Successful collaborations have been a feature of the IKT group since its inception. This year the group initiated a number of collaborative projects, notably the East Midlands Knowledge Network (EMKN), and Enterprise Inc.
Research Strategy Group
EMUA's Research Strategy Group addresses strategic issues in relation to academic research in the East Midlands. It also oversees the work of a number of Research Subgroups which aim to develop research collaborations in the region. These subgroups include:
EMUA also works with a number of research related networks which support the region’s I-nets.
The EMUA Employer Engagement and Higher Level skills Strategy Group provides a forum through which EMUA can engage with the region’s esp Partnership and aims to advise and inform EMUA members on strategic issues in relation to the region’s implementation of the Government’s response to the Leitch Report, and other related strategies. Special Interest Groups
These groups represent networks of colleagues in specific professional areas of higher education. They work alongside EMUA and, although they are not always involved in our current activities, join forces with us on a variety of collaborative projects.
- Careers Group
- Student Health and Wellbeing Group
- Environmental Managers Group - sharing and developing best practice in dealing with the increasingly important issues around Climate Change Adaptation, Carbon Reduction Commitment and calculating scope 3 carbon emissions.
- EMUIT - the East Midlands Universities IT group addresses common Information Technology issues across the regions' Universities.
- Health & Social Care Group - interacting with the region’s NHS structures on policy issues.
- Deans of Engineering Alliance - a network of HE providers in the subject area of Engineering and Technology from across the Midlands (both East and West).
- Public Relations Group - an advisory body to the EMUA Information Officer, providing information and support as and when required.
- Librarians Group - focuses particularly on initiatives and activities which benefit both the East Midlands community and the member institutions, and which may be delivered co-operatively.
