our members

EMUA has eight members and two associate members, thereby representing all the higher education institutions (HEIs) in the East Midlands. Between them, our member HEIs educate more than 158,000 students, employ more than 30,500 staff, conduct over £8 million worth of consultancy with businesses per year and have a combined annual turnover in excess of £1.169 billion. Higher education in the East Midlands accounts for over 4% of the regional gross domestic product.

The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise highlighted that 86% of university research in the East Midlands is of international importance, with 14% of all research classified as world-leading (4*). The results confirm that universities in the region all undertake cutting-edge research, across a wide range of subject areas.
